Short power outage? Use it as a real blackout test
A short outage is annoying, but useful. It immediately shows whether light, water, communication and cooling are truly prepared at home.
A short power outage is not a reason to panic, but it should not be ignored. First check whether only your flat, your building or the whole street is affected. Look beyond the lights: router, fridge, cooker, lift, garage door and neighbouring homes matter too. If traffic lights are out, move with extra caution and treat junctions without signals as controlled four-way stops. Do not open the fridge or freezer unnecessarily, so the cold stays inside. Keep one phone for emergencies and use another device for information if possible. A power bank should be reachable and charged, not empty in a drawer. Use the first minutes as a checklist: does the torch work, are batteries available, does everyone know where water, medicine, pet supplies, cash and documents are? After power returns, write down what was missing. Fill the gaps deliberately, not in panic. Then the short outage becomes a useful test.
