Tip: prepare calmly when the grid is under stress

When grid operators or authorities warn of high demand, calm action matters: charge devices, prepare water, plan cooling and reduce consumption.

Tip: prepare calmly when the grid is under stress
When a grid operator, authority or weather service warns of high electricity demand, it is not a reason to panic. But it is the right moment to act calmly and quickly. The hours before a possible outage often decide whether a household stays organised or becomes chaotic.

First charge all important devices: phone, power bank, flashlight, battery radio, laptop and medical devices if needed. Check that charging cables, batteries and at least one working light source are easy to reach.

Fill drinking water, especially if your water supply depends on electric pumps. Keep refrigerator and freezer closed as much as possible. If you have ice packs, put them in the freezer beforehand.

During announced peak hours, reduce unnecessary electricity use. Washing machine, dryer, oven, dishwasher and heavy chargers do not need to run exactly when the grid is already under pressure.

Plan one cooler room. Close curtains or shutters early, ventilate only early or late, and keep water, medication and a simple sitting area ready. Think of elderly people, children, pets and neighbors who live alone.

Important: never use a grill, camping stove or generator indoors, on enclosed balconies or in poorly ventilated areas. Carbon monoxide is invisible, odorless and deadly.

React while the power is still on. Then preparedness is not stress, but a calm routine.
